1. Why is this course so important?
-Practical Reasons: No matter what field you go into, Indigenous perspectives are becoming more and more important
-Theoretical: First Nations have been under represented in our school system, their texts and traditions were suppressed and whether we like to admit it or not, there still can be overt racism in Canada because of a lack of educations.
Here are three examples from just the past few months:

1. Read the Richard Wagamese quote together. Discuss in pairs what they think it means.
2. Explain that stories from our own lives and others influence our worldview as well. Thomas King explores this in his essay "You'll Never Believe what Happened is Always a Good Way to Start" in the Truth about Stories. Go over the t-chart and how to fill it in. Personal stories may not seem important to us, but they are important to the person who experienced them.
4. Have students share a story from their own past that wouldn't matter to anyone else but has defined them (Or do as a free write) 1. Analyze together as a class, how did the stories Thomas King shared about his mother and father influence him?
5. In the first third of the essay, he discusses how personal stories affect our lives, but they generally don't go beyond us and the people close to us. Now he will move on to creation stories and the impact that they have on cultures and, sometimes, the world.
6 Read or continue listening to 10-20. 16-32:00 minutes

"One way or another we are living the stories planted in us early or along the way, or we are also living the stories we planted --knowingly or unknowingly-- in ourselves. We live stories that either give our lives meaning or negate it with meaninglessness. If we change the stories we live by, quite possibly we change our lives."
