Hello everyone! I miss you all already and I am sad that we have to finish the class this way, but I will do the best I can to make it engaging and relevant. Every week I would like you to do and the assignment that I would like you to complete. As long as it is there, feel free to skip ahead to the next week, but do keep in mind that things (in this ever changing environment) may change a bit. That being said, lets get started!
1. As Napoleon was a direct outcome of the French Revolution, please watch the Oversimplified videos of the French Revolution to remind you what the background was of him rising to power
2. Please open up the document: Cornell Notes Video assignment. You can fill in the document online and email it to me, or you can print it off and fill out it and then take a picture and email it to me, whatever works for you. You could also make the notes yourself on a regular piece of paper and then take a picture and email it to me. I am flexible.
3. Read the quote “I wanted to rule the world, and in order to do this I needed unlimited power… I wanted to rule the world- who wouldn’t have in my place? The world begged me to govern it…" Record on your sheet what you think this quote shows about how Napoleon viewed himself.
4. Look at the two picture above. These are paintings that Napoleon had commissioned of himself (meaning he paid someone to make them). What image do you think Napoleon was trying to portray to the people of France.
5. Now look at the a propaganda poster that the British published (image is below this), how did they want people to view Napoleon?
6. Now we are going to learn a skill that will be valuable any time you want to learn something new or review: Cornell Notes!
7. Take a look at the sample Cornell notes that I provided and watch the video I made on how to take Cornell Notes, You are going to make your own based on the first 21:58 minutes of a documentary about Napoleon called: Napoleon: The Glory of France (the documentary is below the picture at the bottom). The Cornell Notes are due no later than WEDNESDAY APRIL 15
Summary of the Directions (also in the video I made about taking Cornell Notes)
A. as you listen to the documentary write down about 15 key points. You should not write more than 20 points at the absolute most. Think of important ideas, not just small facts.
B. After you reach 21:58, stop the documentary and read over your notes. Group them together into headings. Write the heading (also called cues) in the left hand column of the sheet.
C. After you have added headings (cues) to your notes, read them over again and add a two sentence summary of what the notes are about (at the very bottom of the notes) and a title (at the top of the notes). The title should be specific to what the notes are actually about and not just "Napoleon"
8. Once you are done your notes, email them to me. This can be type notes or a picture of the printed sheet you wrote on, or if you don't have a printer you can make the notes yourself on a regular piece of paper.
9. Finally, please watch my video on how Napoleon changed France and crowned himself Emperor. Next week we will discuss how he took over most of Continental Europe.
10. I have also included chapter questions and a vocabulary sheet. While we don't normally do this in class, I am assigning this because it will help you with a creative project we will do at the end of this unit which will require you do use a set number of terms in your project. This sheet will be very helpful for that. The questions are due by TUESDAY APRIL 21. You can either print them off and write on the sheet and then email a picture of them to me, or type your answers on the sheet and email me the document (feel free to delete the lines on the vocab sheet if you like)

Week Four/Five April 29-May 5: Napoleon's Downfall
1. Required: Listen/Watch my narrated powerpoint video on Napoleon's Downfall (click on link button right above this).
2. Optional, but highly recommended: Finish the Napoleon Documentary (Napoleon: The Glory of France) to help review the material you just learned about in the powerpoint in another way (from where you stopped at the end of the Cornell Notes 21: 58- until the end). You have approximately 30 minutes left.
Note: It is important to watch at least one (but preferably both) of the videos I have posted with this lesson. One thing I will be looking for when I mark your Summative assignment is that you refer to information that covers the ENTIRE unit, not just one section. I would recommend taking notes when you watch them, but as long as you do watch them that is all I am asking.
3. Now you may begin working on your creative project summative assignment. Due Tuesday May 12.

Week Seven-Nine May 19-June 9: The Industrial Revolution
Unit Explanation
We are going to try something a little different for our last unit. The first lesson (directly below this) everyone will so the same thing so that we all have a general understanding of what the Industrial Revolution was. This will have you watch two videos, fill in the blanks and answer some questions. (Due Tuesday May 26)
Then, the remaining part of the unit will be "choose your own adventure style." (due date TBA)
I have made a google slides show (In Lesson Two: entitled "Choose your Own Adventure: The Industrial Revolution"). When you click on it and it opens, put it in presentation mode (click the "present" button on the top right hand side). Then, choose 1 thing from each column that you are interested in and when you click on it, it will take you to the lesson and assignment that you need to complete. You can do it in any order that you like (however you should leave column four for last as it is assignments that consider the whole time period). You must just have 4 assignments completed by the end. ( I will have a due date for those 4 assignments to you shortly, I'm just waiting on some information). Choose what you are interested in and make this unit fit your talents and passions!

1. Choose a topic in history that you are interested in. It does not need to be connected to this course. Try to pick a small topic (for example, Hitler's rise to power or German Tanks or Auschwitz rather than World War Two). It could also be the history of something (ie. The Internet, 1920s fashion etc). Feel free to run your topic by me and I will let you know if I think it is viable.
2. Fill out the document above for your topic. Use the internet for research, but make sure you are using authentic resources. This project is similar to our one on the French Revolution.
3. Email me your project when you are done.
4. Good luck and have fun showing off the skills you have learned this year in Individuals and Society with a topic YOU want to explore. Due Wednesday June 17.
